Diskriminasyon

SONNET READING

FASHION DESIGN

What I designed featured a red cardigan over a white turtle neck long-sleeve, a matching red pair of shoes and mixed washed denim pants with a series of red, black and white random paint. My character also have a cream necklace with red pearls and cream belt. My idea was inspired by modern day's fashion with color coordination.

FAMILY PORTRAIT

#ASIANISTAFAMILYCONNECTEDBYHEART

Our theme is love. Love shared within each other that is unseen on the outside. This is the closest family photo that I could get because of problems happening and also growing up as a catholic and a Filipino, traditions, celebrations and holidays are a big part of our lives. Despite being busy and us living our own lives and growing so much near to adulthood, events/holidays like Christmas, bring us all together to celebrate.

DISKRIMINASYON

The Bigger Picture

Lil Baby

Protests and growing national outcry continues
Over the death of George Floyd
Last night, people protesting in Minneapolis escalated
As demonstrators were lashed by tear gas and rubber bullets
The main message here, the main message here, the main message here
Is that they want to see those officers involved
They want to see those officers arrested
Officers arrested
(I can't breathe, I can't breathe)

Trade my 4 x 4 for a G63, ain't no more free Lil Steve
I gave 'em chance and chance and chance again
I even done told them please
I find it crazy the police'll shoot you and know that you dead
But still tell you to freeze
Fucked up, I seen what I seen
I guess that mean hold him down if he say he can't breathe
It's too many mothers that's grieving
They killing us for no reason
Been going on for too long to get even
Throw us in cages like dogs and hyenas
I went to court and they sent me to prison
My mama was crushed when they said I can't leave
First I was drunk, then I sobered up quick
When I heard all that time that they gave to Taleeb
He got a life sentence plus
We just some products of our environment
How the fuck they gon' blame us?
You can't fight fire with fire
I know, but at least we can turn up the flames some
Every colored person ain't dumb and all whites not racist
I be judging by the mind and heart, I ain't really into faces
Fucked up, the way that we livin' is not getting better
You gotta know how to survive
Crazy, I had to tell all of my loved ones
To carry a gun when they going outside
Stare in the mirror whenever you drive
Overprotective, go crazy for mine
You gotta pay attention to the signs
Seem like the blind following the blind
Thinking 'bout everything that's going on
I boost security up at my home
I'm with my kind if they right or they wrong
I call him now, he'll pick up the phone
And it's five in the morning, he waking up on it
Tell 'em wherever I'm at, then they comin'
I see blue lights, I get scared and start runnin'
That shit be crazy, they 'posed to protect us
Throw us in handcuffs and arrest us
While they go home at night, that shit messed up
Knowing we needed help, they neglect us
Wondering who gon' make them respect us
I can see in your eye that you fed up
Fuck around, got my shot, I won't let up
They know that we a problem together
They know that we can storm any weather
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere
Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear
Fuck it, I'm goin' on the front line
He gon' bust your ass if you come past that gun line
You know when the storm go away, then the sun shine
You gotta put your head in the game when it's crunch time
I want all my sons to grow up to be monsters
I want all my daughters to show out in public
Seems like we losing our country
But we gotta stand up for something, so this what it comes to
Every video I see on my conscience
I got power, now I gotta say somethin'
Corrupted police been the problem where I'm from
But I'd be lying if I said it was all of them
I ain't do this for the trend, I don't follow them
Altercations with the law, had a lot of them
People speaking for the people, I'm proud of them
Stick together, we can get it up out of them

I can't lie like I don't rap about killing and dope
But I'm telling my youngins to vote
I did what I did 'cause I didn't have no choice or no hope
I was forced to just jump in and go
This bullshit is all that we know, but it's time for a change
Got time to be serious, no time for no games
We ain't takin' no more, let us go from them chains
God bless they souls, every one of them names
It's bigger than black and white
It's a problem with the whole way of life
It can't change overnight
But we gotta start somewhere

Might as well gon' 'head start here
We done had a hell of a year
I'ma make it count while I'm here
God is the only man I fear

P.S. Racism, homophobia, sexism, and other types of discrimination against people has been going on since forever. The lyrics I highlighted touched me because it is a fact. Inequality, discrimination and things like that, that has been going on for so many years doesn't change overnight but that doesn't mean that your voice isn't important. It is a problem in the world, a problem in our lives, and the biggest concern of the people directly hit by that problem. It is important that we should be voicing out. It is important that we should be talking about this and to let the people know that they are not alone, that we are with them in this battle. It doesn't matter how long it takes until discrimination fully disappears but as long as we start somewhere, progress will be made.

Ang sagot ko sa katanungang iyon ay "the value of life is what we make of it".

A Progression of a New World: The Bright Side of Immigration

For years and years, migration has been a global issue, it is a the movement of people that transfers from one area to another. A lot of people argue that migration should be banned because it provides negative effects on the world but migration, has both positive and negative effects on both the host and the losing country and migrants, just like every other person, also has rights.

There are various of reasons why people move from one place to another. Sometimes it is because they want to and sometimes it is because they have to.

Around the world, there are an estimated 230 million migrants, making up about 3% of the global population. This share has not changed much in the past 100 years. But as the world’s population has quadrupled, so too has the number of migrants. Immigrants play such a vital role globally. Immigration boosts economic growth, meets skill shortages, and helps create a more dynamic society. The immigrants help assist their country’s businesses, which become more agile, adaptive and profitable in the war for talent. Governments in turn receive more revenue and citizens thrive on the dynamism that highly-skilled migrants bring. Yet it is not only higher-skilled migrants who are vital. In the USA and elsewhere, unskilled immigrants are an essential part of the construction, agriculture and services sector.

In addition, migration also brings cultural diversity. Cultural diversity is important because our country, workplaces, and schools increasingly consist of various cultural, racial and ethnic groups. We can learn from one another, but first we must have a level of understanding about each other in order to facilitate collaboration and cooperation. In the world in which we live in, learning about other cultures helps us to understand different perspectives and helps to dispel negative stereotypes and personal biases about different groups.

Furthermore, cultural diversity helps us recognize and respect "ways of being" that are not necessarily our own so that we can build bridges to trust, respect and understanding across cultures as we interact with others. In addition, this diversity makes our country a more interesting place to live, because language skills, new ways of thinking, new knowledge and different experiences are contributed by people from diverse cultures.

There has been countless of doubts and questions regarding migration but it is undeniable that in the near future, the numbers will just continue to grow. There are legitimate concerns about large-scale migration. The possibility of social dislocation is real but just like globalization – a strong force for good in the world – the positive aspects are diffuse and often intangible, while the negative aspects bite hard for a small group of people.

Although there are also obstacles that migrants have to overcome, migration has brought millions of people seek a better life. From war zone, poor, and violent countries, people had the opportunity to relocate to a better place with more and better opportunities awaiting for them.

The negative aspects of migration must also be managed but that management must come with the recognition that migration has always been one of the most important drivers of human progress and dynamism. Immigration is good. And in the age of globalization, barriers to migration pose a threat to economic growth and sustainability.

As John Stuart Mill forcefully argued, we need to ensure that the local and short-term social costs of immigration do not detract from their role “as one of the primary sources of progress”.

Discussions surrounding migration deem it everything from a human rights issue to an inaccessible privilege, and is often labelled a 'crisis' and a catalyst for political turmoil. But even as a force that is so hotly debated, few understand its main drivers.
